Doctors in Concert Changes Its Tune to Continue Fundraising for Children’s Discovery Museum’s New Medical Exhibit

By Amy Pitzer, Events and Volunteer Coordinator

The Children’s Discovery Museum plans to open its new Healthy Me! medical exhibit late this year and funds from this year’s virtual Doctors in Concert will directly support the fabrication and installation of this highly anticipated exhibit.

Due to COVID-19, the committee rescheduled the event originally planned for April to Friday, September 18 at 6:00 p.m. as an online event that will now be live-streamed from the Children’s Discovery Museum.

We are thankful for the commitment and support of our local physicians during the rescheduling process. Their support will enable us to continue fundraising the remaining dollars needed for the Healthy Me! exhibit,” said Elise Albers, Event Chair and Foundation Board Member.

Doctors in Concert is a unique event that showcases local physicians’ musical talents in order to raise funds for the museum’s medical exhibit. Physicians perform classical and contemporary melodies on piano, violin, cello, guitar, and harmonica. That experience will not change with the virtual event. There will also be a Silent Auction and donor opportunities in between performances as well as a sneak peek of the brand-new exhibit!

We’re excited to debut this immersive and imaginative play space dedicated to helping kids understand what a Healthy Me looks like and the important role they play in their own healthcare journey,” said Beth Whisman, Executive Director of the Children’s Discovery Museum. With generous lead support from OSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital of Illinois, OSF HealthCare St. Joseph Medical Center Carle BroMenn Medical Center, and dozens of individual donors, initial funding for the exhibit has been strong but there is still work to be done. That’s where Doctors in Concert attendees come into play, buying concert tickets and participating in the silent auction to support the project.

This year’s virtual Doctors in Concert will be held on Friday, September 18 at 6:00pm. Tickets and event information can be found at www.childrensdiscoverymuseum.net.
