I am grateful that Becky Unsicker is allowing me to share her fitness journey with you. Becky was born in Peoria, Illinois and was raised in Roanoke, Illinois and attended Roanoke Benson High School. Upon graduating from high school, Becky enrolled in Illinois Central College for child development. While attending ICC Becky met her to be husband, Denny. Upon graduating, Becky and Denny were married and moved to Dunlap. Once they were established, Becky started a day care center in Dunlap. Within a short period of time, the day care center outgrew the space in Dunlap and Becky decided to move it to Peoria on Knoxville Avenue. Becky maintained the day care center successfully for 15 years. Once Denny, Becky’s husband, decided to farm independently, Becky decided to close the day care center in order to help with the immense responsibilities. Denny and Becky’s farm and trucking company took a lot of their time and required attention to detail.
Becky’s fitness journey started early in life—she enjoyed playing tennis recreationally two times per week. Becky also would find a way with her busy schedule to swim at least twice a week to help her maintain her fitness. Becky followed her regimen of tennis and swimming for many years. As time went on, Becky realized she needed to incorporate a fitness regimen that would help stabilize and strengthen her abdominals, lower back, and extremities. Becky researched and realized the best way to approach her physical needs would be in the form of resistance training. Becky’s friend suggested a good place to exercise—at the time it was called Club Fitness. Becky learned the basics and some of the fundamentals of resistance training and over the years developed a good understanding what was needed for her to maintain total body strength.
In 2013, Becky’s fitness center decided to take a different route. Through good relations, Club Fitness Center’s personal trainer established himself at Fitness Counseling along with the majority of its clients and members. Club fitness conducted their workouts through group personal training. The program is now under Matthew Burdess within Fitness Counseling. Matthew, for the past 10 years, has done an outstanding job helping to strengthen his clients and helping them achieve their fitness goals. Group training is a wonderful way to develop strength through resistance training and it can also be achieved with a spouse or a friend making it more enjoyable. Becky understood that the group training fitness approach was a good choice for her. Becky trained under this style of training for many years and has learned a lot. Becky now performs her cardio and resistance training at Fitness Counseling, however she maintains her fitness regimen on her own. Becky said for many years she followed the twice a week total body fitness principle. Within the last couple years, Becky realized that she needed to incorporate a third day of resistance training. The third day three times total body per week principle has helped her improve significantly.
I am honored to be able to write about Becky and to tell you little bit about her story. Becky is dedicated to achieving success with her fitness goals. She always has a wonderful mindset and attacks her fitness program through to completion. Becky’s determination towards her fitness success is a wonderful inspiration to others within Fitness Counseling. Also, Becky’s willingness to encourage others and make them feel welcome is priceless. I am so grateful to have Becky as part of the Fitness Counseling family. Thank you, Becky, for always sharing your wonderful smile.
